Happy Krishna Janmashtami/Gokulashtami/Krishnastami/Aatham/Srijayanti

Shree Krishna Govind Hare Murari, he Naath Narayan Vasudev...Raadhe Krishna...

Good evening friends and I heartly wish you all a very very very happy Shri Krishna Janmashtami. Well, today is the day of celebrations, the big day, the birthday of Lord Shri Krishna and this day is observed on the eighth day of the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per traditional calendar followed in North India. Anyway, Shri Krishna Janmashtami is observed on different days in different parts of India according to different calenders. Lord Krishna was eighth Avatar of Lord Vishnu. The birth of Lord Krishna takes place on the eighth day after Raksha Bandhan. The Janmashtami is celebrated for over two days of which first day is known as Gokulashtami or Krishnastami and the second day is known as Kalashtami.

The celebrations in fact begins during the midnight between these two days. I am writing this at about 10.30 p.m. on the Krishnastami and we in our family are going to stay awaken till 12 at night to see the birth of one of the most famous Lord Shri Krishna. This is the routine of every year during this days and I have been observing since childhood that the celebrations and this festival mostly comes in the month of August (what an observation, isn't it? don't say "tannnnnn" now please!). Well, I have been a huge fan of this festival due to one more reason of having so many holidays during these days since my childhood. We can easily say Janmashtami as a mini vacation for school going children. Okay come to the point now, I am just eagerly waiting for the moment the celebration will reach its peak in midnight, the moment when the birth of Shri Krishna will take place, the moment when the whole atmoshpere will become a witness of our worship, our belief in God, the moment when the Aartis will begin, the moment when the blowing of Shankh (Shankhnaad you see!) will begin with lots of Divas burning and making the night Roshan with lightening all over.

After the birth, the Lord will be given bath by devotees with Panchamruta made up of Gangajal, Ghee, Curd, honey and milk. And the Panchamrut along with some sweets will be distributed as Prasad among the Bhaktagan(devotees).
The temples are decorated like a bride and the colourfull celebration is about to be witnessed by all of us. At many places Raslila will also be performed just like the Lord Krishna used to do with Gopis (I have been jealous of Kanuda since childhood for being surrounded by Gopiyaas and performing Raslila, it was my secret wish at one time if I can be an another Avatar of Shri Krishna...!!!).

Well, I was supposed to write more about Shri Krishna's birth and it's significance and the legend of this festival by telling the story of Kansh Mama, and lot more but I think so many of you must know lot more than I do know about Lord Krishna and his stories. So, without taking much of your time and hammering tannn tannn tannn in your mind let me take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Janmashtami and let us wait for tannn tannn tannn tannn sounds from temples (instead) notifying us about the birth of little beloved Kanuda has taken place. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare.....Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama......Hare Hare.
 Jay Shree Krishna
