hi hello and welcome friends,
Today we are celebrating Shitala Satam in our country, but in a strange way. Well, I have just had my lunch and We, in our family ate cold food ( the food cooked on Randhan Chhathh Day, i.e., yesterday). And well, I loved it, especially the Dhoklaas, kept on the leaves of Banyan tree (Well, I, me and myslef went to my Chandkheda village and found out the banyan tree and got the leaves..!!! how obidient son I am!).
It is believed that on this day the devotees (shraddhaalu loko u see) worship Shitala mata for the welbeing of their children. It is also believed that Shitala mata, when become kopaaymaan ( i don't know it's english meaning word, please suggest and tell me if u know), ya where were we? oh yes, it is believed that when Shitala mata becomes kopayman, or angry, she blasts diseases like Smallpox. So for the welbeing of their children and to worship the Goddess Shitala mata cold meal is taken during the day. Shitala mata's pooja is performed after taking bath in cold water. I have been observing this since childhood but never thought I would think about writing something on this issue anyday. It is there in the Skand Puran that donkey is the vehicle of Shitalamata. Shitala satam is celebrated in the Sraavan month according to Gujarati calender on the seventh day of vad paksh ( see the advantage of writing blog, it has encouraged me to do literature search about such topic).
Ok friends, time to say sayonara for now ( becoz I don't know much about Shitala Satam ). I will be back tomorrow with something about Janmashtami, the festival of my one of the favourite Charecter, Lord, God Sri Krishna...till then Je C Krashna...!!!
